What is Dole Whip made of?

The pineapple Dole Whip found at Disney theme parks is made from flavoring mixes and stabilizers that create a mixture that can be dispensed through soft-serve machines. But we can recreate the flavor with simple ingredients from the grocery store and a Ninja CREAMi machine. And you need only three ingredients: vanilla ice cream, pineapple chunks, and pineapple juice.

Ingredients & Substitutions for Making Ninja CREAMi Dole Whip

Have these handy, along with all the ingredients listed in the recipe below, so you can whip up a batch of Dole Whip in the Ninja CREAMi in no time.

Vanilla Ice Cream I used this Ninja CREAMi Vanilla Ice Cream in this recipe. but you could use store-bought vanilla ice cream also. Just be aware that the consistency of the Dole Whip will depend on the ingredients in whichever ice cream you use.

Pineapple Chunks or Tidbits Of course I used Dole Pineapple Chunks in this recipe, but any brand will work. You can use either canned or frozen, but if you use canned, get pineapple chunks that are packed in pineapple juice, instead of syrup, so there isn’t any added sugar. And bonus, you can use the juice in the recipe instead of buying a can of pineapple juice! Note: If you can’t find pineapple chunks or tidbits, don’t substitute crushed pineapple. It has too much juice in it and will make your Dole Whip very soft.

Pineapple Juice Canned pineapple juice is usually found in the juice section of the grocery store, but not all stores carry it. If you can’t find it in your store, use pineapple chunks that are canned in pineapple juice and just measure out two ounces to use in this recipe.

Absolutely! If you’re making this Ninja CREAMi Vanilla Ice Cream to use in this recipe, just follow the tips to make it vegan. Or you can use your favorite store-bought vegan vanilla ice cream.

Is Dole Whip like sorbet?

This Ninja CREAMi Dole Whip recipe is very similar to ice cream or sherbet, which is to say that it contains dairy ingredients to make it creamy. Sorbets are mostly fruit and sugar, with maybe some water mixed in.

Can I use frozen fruit in the Ninja CREAMi?

The Ninja CREAMi manual states that frozen fruit should not be used in making ice cream bases, because the fruit pieces can be very hard which could damage the machine. So, if you are going to use frozen pineapple in this recipe, I would suggest thawing it first, then mixing it with the vanilla ice cream and pineapple juice before freezing.
