Fairy Tail is an anime that is absolutely full of canon ships but it seems that Natsu and Lucy, the two main characters, are the only couple that has yet to been confirmed. The two share an extremely close bond that often makes fans question the true intention of their relationship.

Thelack of confirmation seems to mostly be due to Natsu who is a little dense and unconcerned with romance. And yet, Natsu has time and again proven that his feelings for Lucy may be deeper than just friendship. Hopefully, these feelings will become canon soon.
10 Natsu Carried and Cared For Drunk Lucy
The Fairy Tail gang is at an onsen when all of the Fairy Tail girls managed to get into the booze. Lucy is especially drunk and starts meowing and fawning over Natsu. While initially freaked out about the incident, Natsu does his best to take care of Lucy. Not wanting to upset her, he accepts her change of character and goes along with her drunken charade.
Natsu even pets Lucy like a cat to appease her. Natsu is eventually forced to take Lucy to the bathroom on his back and the episode ends with Lucy thinking to herself"Natsu's back is warm...".
9 Natsu Thanked Future Lucy for Protecting Them, Including Present Lucy
Natsu's love for Lucy is not limited to her current form. When Future Lucy comes back in time to warn Fairy Tail of the dangers of the future, Natsu completely puts his trust in her.Natsu is endlessly empathetic towards the horrors Future Lucy had faced and gives her the same warmth he shows present Lucy.
At this moment, Natsu kneels down and pressed his face against her, thanking her for protecting Fairy Tail, him, and present Lucy. Nothing shows love more than trust.
8 Natsu Threatened to Hurt Those That Hurt Lucy
Natsu and Wendy are taken prisoner but Hughes suggests executing Lucy since they have no use for her. Unable to handle Lucy's mistreatment, Natsu becomes angry and threatens to burn Hughes and his soldiers if they do as much as scratch Lucy.

Natsu's overly protective nature over Lucy can be observed in this scene. Despite being imprisoned and having almost no way out of his prison, he still puts on a strong front against Hughes and his soldiers for Lucy.
7 Natsu Fell Asleep At Lucy's, Waiting for Her
Lucy is upset that Natsu and Happy always break into her home and bother her so she spends the entire day following Natsu to find where he lives. She eventually finds his home but Happy and Natsu don't come home. The episode then reveals that Natsu and Happy were at Lucy's and Natsu had been waiting for Lucy all day.
Lucy comes home to see Natsu sleeping on her bed, without a care in the world. She smiles because no matter how annoying Natsu is, he wanted her to come home.
6 Natsu Saved Lucy from Zash and Carried Her to Safety
Natsu comes to save Lucy because he knows he is partially responsible for her endangerment. Ominous things were likely in Lucy's future if Natsu had not come. But like always, he does. Natsu comes in, fire blazing, and wrecks everything in the classic Natsu fashion.
Natsu punches Zash and picks Lucy up. Despite complaining about her weight all the time, he enthusiastically picks Lucy up and the two head to safety.
5 Natsu Was Willing to Kiss Lucy
Natsu and Lucy are driven around by Asuka all day as they both promised to do whatever it is that Asuka wants. As the end of the day draws to an end, Asuka demands that Lucy and Natsu kiss. Natsu tells Asuka she's too young to ask for that but is completely nonchalant about the kiss.

Lucy is flustered and embarrassed but Natsu seems more than willing to kiss Lucy. Unfortunately for Natsu, Lucy shoves Happy in her place as Natsu leans in.
4 Natsu SpentHis Last Moments Before The War with Lucy
War against his brother Zeref is imminent. Natsu knows today will be the last day of peace and he chooses to spend it with Lucy. The two talk, laugh, and reminisce on their life and adventure. And that night Natsu also opens himself up to Lucy. Natsu talks about how he wants to be stronger and fight but he doesn't like the pain and lives lost that often accompany it.
His pouring of emotions leaves him emotionally vulnerable with Lucy but he doesn't mind. Natsu's trust and ability to be vulnerable with Lucy is proof of their deep emotional bonds.
3 Natsu Encouraged Lucy When She Scored Zero Points
Lucy fights against Flare in the Grand Magic Games. The two are neck and neck with Lucy about to unleash the "Ultimate Magic of the Stars" but her incantation is erased by Obra. Flare uses this chance to brutally attack Lucy who falls to the ground. The victory is Flare's and she uses it as an excuse to call Lucy "pathetic, ugly, and a loser".
Everyone laughs at Lucy while she trembles on the ground beside Natsu. He knows it is not Lucy's fault and he encourages her to use her tears for their victory instead. Natsu never blames Lucy and even promises that Fairy Tail will turn the tide.
2 NatsuLefta Letter for Lucy When He Vanished
Natsu isfilled with regret because there was so much he was not able to share with Igneel. Natsu knowsthat he will have to avenge Igneel but he is not strong enough and holds a letter in his hand. This letter is for Lucy. He tells Happy about the big problem that the letter is. Its content reveals that he will be leaving for a year to fortify his strength in hopes of defeating the Black Dragon.
Unbeknownst to Lucy, Natsu and Happy leave for their journey. As she reads the letter, Lucy burst into tears about her loneliness without him. Lucy was the only person that received a letter from Natsu.
1 Natsu Held Lucy After Eclair's Death
Natsu, Lucy, and their friends watched Eclair pass away with the stone. Unable to accept Eclair's death, Lucy starts crying uncontrollably, asking for a magic that will stop the tears. Everyone is stricken with grief but Natsu's primary concern is Lucy.
He soothes Lucy, assuring her Eclair passed happily and allows Lucy to cry in his arm. Natsu has told Lucy he loves her in all the ways possible except with words.
