Riverdale is an American television series based on the characters of Archie Comics. The series was adapted toThe CW by Archie Comics' chief creative officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. The series is produced by CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros. Television, in association withBerlanti Productions and Archie Comics. Originally conceived as a feature film adaptation forWarner Bros. Pictures, the idea was re-imagined as a television series for Fox. In 2015, development on the project moved to The CW, where the series was ordered for a pilot. Filming takes place in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The series features an ensemble cast based on thecharacters of Archie Comics. withKJ Apa playing the role of Archie Andrews, Charles Melton playing Reggie Mantle, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper,Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, the series' narrator. The cast also featuresAshleigh MurrayasJosie McCoy, Madelaine PetschasCheryl Blossom. Other characters in the series include Fred Andrews, Alice Cooper, FP Jones, and Hermione Lodge, the parents of Archie, Betty, Jughead, and Veronica respectively.

The thirteen-episode first season premiered on January 26, 2017 to positive reviews, before concluding on May 11, 2017. On March 7, 2017, The CW renewed the series for a twenty-two-episode second season, which premiered on October 11, 2017.

On December 1, 2017, aspin-offseries based on the comic bookChilling Adventures of Sabrinawas ordered to series byNetflixwith a two-season order.

He is now juggling the interest of several girls, as well as trying to balance his passion for writing and performing music—against the wishes of his father and his football coach.
• Lili ReinhartasElizabeth "Betty" Cooper: A sweet, smart, eager-to-please and beautiful girl with a longtime crush on her best friend, Archie. • Camila MendesasVeronica Lodge: A beautiful, sophisticated, confident, silver-tongued high school sophom*ore and former socialite. Veronica is the "new girl" in town and is eager for a fresh start. Veronica sees the move to Riverdale from New York as an opportunity to reinvent herself while making amends to redeem herself from the rich spoiled girl she once was. Humbled from her old ways in the past and from an embezzlement scandal involving herfather, she and hermotherhave lost most of their status and wealth.
• Cole SprouseasForsythe "Jughead" Jones III: A philosophically inclined social outcast who was once Archie's best friend, and who is still dealing with the rift that developed between them over the summer. His father is the leader of a local motorcycle gang called the Southside Serpents.
• Marisol NicholsasHermione Lodge: Veronica's mother, who has returned to Riverdale with her daughter in order to continue a deal established by Lodge Industries and to start an affair with Fred Andrews, following the recent incarceration of her husbandHiram Lodge.

• Casey CottasKevin Keller: An openly gay high school student who is friends with Archie, Betty and Veronica. He is the son of Riverdale's sheriff. Cott was promoted to series regular in the second season.
• Skeet UlrichasForsythe "F.P." Jones II: Jughead's estranged father and the leader of the Southside Serpents, a gang of criminals that live and operate on the fringes of Riverdale.Ulrich was promoted to series regular in the second season.
• Vanessa Morgan as Toni Topaz: A bisexual member of the Southside Serpents, who befriends Jughead in season 2. Morgan was promoted to series regular in the third season.
