How to Make Grinch Christmas Cookies
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and prepare a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat, like this one.
Step 2
In a medium bowl whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt then set aside.
Step 3
In a large bowl, cream butter with an electric mixer on medium speed for 5 minutes. Stop and scrape down the sides occasionally. Add the sugar and continue beating for 5 to 7 minutes or until fluffy.
Step 4
Add the egg and vanilla extract, beating until evenly combined.
Step 5
Add the flour mixture, a little at a time beating after each addition until all is mixed.
Step 6
Slowly add the milk to the dough as the mixer runs, adding just enough to soften the dough.
Step 7
Now it is time to add the food coloring gel a little bit at a time until the desired green color is reached.
Step 8
Use a small cookie scoop, like this one, to portion the cookie dough, and shape it into balls. Place on the baking sheet about 1 inch apart.
Step 9
Bake cookies for 8 to 10 minutes or until the cookies are puffed and the edges are set.
Step 10
Cool the cookies on the baking sheet for 2 to 3 minutes before pressing one Hershey’s kiss into the center of each cookie. Place one red heart sprinkle right next to the Hershey kiss for the grinch’s small heart.
Step 11
Transfer to a wire rack and allow the cookies to cool completely. The candies will look like they are melting but do not disturb them and they will resolidify in the correct shape.
Decorating Grinch cookies
Step 1
Place candy melts in a microwave-safe small bowl. Melt the candy on high heat, stirring every 20-30 seconds until completely melted. Do not overheat. If the candy is too thick, add vegetable shortening or coconut oil in 1 teaspoon increments, up to 1 tablespoon, and stir well. Do not add water.
Step 2
Transfer the candy melts to a plastic resealable freezer bag or piping bag with the corner cut off. Drizzle over the cookies and add a heart sprinkle to each cookie. Allow the candy drizzle to set completely before storing.
Storing Grinch Blossom Cookies
Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week or refrigerate for up to 3 weeks. Cooled cookies can also be frozen but sudden temperature changes may cause the candy to “bloom” which is harmless but not pretty.
