Considering moving house? The best London commuter towns for 2023 have been ranked in Yopa's annual report, uncovering the most affordable alternatives to the capital's high house prices.

Woking has taken the top spot thanks to its short journey time (just 26 minutes to London Waterloo), number of trains each day, low crime rates and average local salaries. Nestled in the heart of Surrey, Yopa describes it as the perfect place for those 'looking to escape the chaos of the capital'.

Reading, Slough, Luton and St Albans also made the top five, recognised for their property prices, train times, season ticket prices and safety in the area. Meanwhile, Maidenhead and Letchworth were both placed in the top 10.

Earlier this month, we saw train prices rise by five per cent, meaning many UK commuters are adding hundreds onto their already-expensive annual tickets. As the cost of living continues to rise, Yopa hopes the research will help Brits get more for their money.

'Since the first lockdown back in 2020, and the increase in remote working, we have definitely seen a change in buyer's behaviours in and around London,' Isaac Bull, London's Divisional Franchise Director at Yopa, says.

Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, also made the list

'Lots of people have opted to move further out of London to take advantage of being able to get significantly more for your money down one of the many commuter routes in the suburbs.

'Buyers have typically sold their smaller flats closer to the city and traded up for a larger house with gardens. This has meant a longer commute for some when they do have to work from the office but most are happy with compromise'.
