The friendliest and least friendly parts of the capital are revealed today in new data which aims to hit back at Londoners' surly reputation.

Greenwich has been hailed as the friendliest place to live in the capital, according to Vivo Property Buyers’ data.

Newham, Islington and Hammersmith and Fulham were ranked the lowest by homeowners, the survey found.

Residents were asked to rate their area based on time spent socialising with their neighbours, the availability of community activities and how welcome they feel there.

Barnet, Merton and Kensington and Chelsea scored highly in the survey, coming 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively based on the categories.

But Greenwich stood out as the friendliest of all 32 boroughs, scoring highly across the board.

Residents of the south-east London borough boasted of their sociable neighbours and feeling safe in the “beautiful” area.

One said: “It’s near to all I need with the wealth of the experience just beyond. Multicultural and proud of it.”

In the survey, another added: “It’s very quiet and our neighbours are very friendly, we help each other every day.”

While scoring highly for socialising with neighbours (80 per cent), 71 per cent of Greenwich residents said they want to spend even more time with them.

However, No one from the west London boroughs of Hammersmith and Fulham or Richmond wanted to socialise more often, the survey found.

Havering received the highest score for partaking in community events, while Barnet was ranked 1st for supporting local businesses.

Merton and the south London borough of Sutton scored highest in the safety and spirit category.

“A resident from Merton claimed that they felt it was like living in a ‘mini village’ while a Sutton respondent felt the borough was ‘family-centric’ all of which contributes the sense of belonging and community spirit,” Vivo said.

In Wandsworth – which scored poorly in this category - residents complained there were “too many snooty people in the area”, and that “children are general badly behaved”.

People in Newham said there needs to be “more activities to bring the community together and bond”.
