An English city has been named and shamed as the most “unhealthy” area in the country.
Analysis of data on 307 districts in England ranked Peterborough in Cambridgeshire as the worst for health and wellbeing in 2023.
The cathedral was given a mark of just 40 out of 100 based on 12 key health markers.
These included air pollution levels, cancer diagnoses, and the physical activity levels.
Most shocking were the city’s high rates of self-reported kidney and liver disease, experienced by 10.5 percent of residents.

More than half of people living in Peterborough also reported mental health conditions (59.6 percent) and 38.5 percent had diabetes.
The findings, gathered by blood testing company Blue Horizon, ranked Lancaster, Gosport and Liverpool as just slightly healthier than Peterborough with respective scores of 41.3, 50.4 and 50.5.
These were followed by Knowsley, a village just outside of Liverpool, which had a score of 51.1.
Northern cities Kingston-upon-Hull and Blackpool, which are frequently listed in similar surveys, scored 51.6 and 52.5.

Taking the ninth and tenth spot were Gloucester and Harlow with 53.3 and 54.8 points.
Blue Horizon based the scores on Office for National Statistics data to devise the health ranking system
Factors including smoking rates, alcohol and drug abuse, healthy eating and obesity were also considered.
Each health factor was given a score out of 100 and the overall scores were tallied up to give a final figure out of 100.

On the other end of the spectrum, South Hams in Devon was crowned the healthiest area in England and was awarded 80 points.
Blue Horizon said: “South Hams ranks the highest above other areas thanks to low rates of alcohol and tobacco use, a low percentage of people with high blood pressure, and alcohol-related hospitalisations.”
Residents of South Hams were also found to stick to a healthy diet, with 67.5 percent eating the recommended five fruits or vegetables a day.
People in South Lakeland (77.7), the Derbyshire Dales (75.7) and Eden (75.3) were runners up for the healthiest area title.

Richmondshire (75.1). Tunbridge Wells (75) and Sevenoaks (74.8) were a close fifth, sixth and seventh.
The borough of Waverly (74.7), Richmond upon Thames (74.6) and Harrogate (74.5) followed after.
Some standout statistics included Hartlepool having the most overweight population, with 74.6 percent of adults classified as overweight or obese.
Drug misuse was highest in Hammersmith and Fulham, with seven offences per 1,000. It’s least common in West Oxfordshire (1.5 offences per 1,000).
