But as mega-mansions sell for an absurd £110 million, humbler residents say the fritterings of the rich ruin their lives.

Mazal Parissis, a resident since 1987, has a brand new 10-bed mansion owned by an oil company going up next door.

Livid at the works, she said of the street: "It's been rebuilt, put down and rebuilt again. It's not nice to hear 'bang bang' all day long.

"This road is closed and opened every five minutes, it is frustrating, but there is nothing we can do."

The uber-rich jet in from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, India, Nigeria, Malaysia and China to snap up gargantuan pads on the road.

Many are successful businessmen and women but others are diplomats and dignitaries who live secretive lives behind armed security teams.

Inside their homes and embassies lie a labyrinth of subterranean swimming pools and multi-car garages packed with Rolls-Royces.

But not everyone is starry-eyed over their heavy-walleted neighbours.

Sima Alam, 46, whose London House flat overlooks Avenue Road, says many of her neighbours have a "superior complex".

The mum-of-two fumed: "You find a lot of them in their big cars a bit snotty, it's like they think 'it's my right of way and I belong here, you move out the way'.

Our neighbour built an entire HOME on his driveway with no permission - and got to keep it after crafty change

"They just think they are better than everyone else. It's part and parcel of living here."

And she blasted the "disruptive" building works for regularly making her late on the school run.

The street today is a far cry from is 1950s heyday when "old money" Brits and even Bond legend Sean Connery owned plots.

But as wealth flooded London in the 90s, many sold their prime positions to international buyers who flattened homes and built their own.

Retired milkman Les Trim, 77, has lived in his Townshend Road Estate flat for 50 years, overlooking some of the mansions.

He's seen sex workers emerge from the properties and says the rich hide behind a shroud of secrecy.

He told The Sun: "You get the flash cars but you don't see these people, they keep themselves to themselves.

"You see the odd girl, cleaner, servant, someone who looks after the property. It's for the super rich. They don't really live here."

Many of the mansions' staff live in equally impressive servant quarters attached to the mega mansions.

Some of these staff visit Whissons Newsgagent who tell the shopkeeper that their bosses are good to them.

Meanwhile Zizi Zeitoun pointed out the home of a Dubai high roller from her balcony in the Townshend Road Estate.
