The largest companies in Mauritius include Air Mauritius, Ireland Blyth Limited (conglomerate), the Ciel Group (conglomerate), the Mauritius Commercial Bank Ltd, State Insurance Company of Mauritius (SICOM) and Shell Mauritius Ltd. Creative initiatives with the government have placed the Mauritian corporate environment in good stead. For example, Computer Security Day, which was set up by the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-MU) in collaboration with the IT Security Unit, Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, and PricewaterhouseCoopers, has helped boost effective dialogue between businesses. The Stock Exchange of Mauritius (SEM) was established in 1989 and became a public company in 2008. It operates and promotes an efficient and regulated securities market. It is one of the leading exchanges in Africa and a member of the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE). The SEM operates two markets: the Official Market and the Development and Enterprise Market (DEM), which has a combined listing of about 87 companies, spanning all sectors of the economy (2009).
