How to Make a Rose Body Balm

A while back I discovered and fell completely in love with Jurlique’s Rose Love Balm. It smells simply AMAZING and feels absolutely divine on skin. However, as I primarily used it as a hand cream, it got used up rather quickly.

When I received a recent purchase of organic Bulgarian rose floral wax, opened the container, closed my eyes and sniffed – I knew I’d found the perfect ingredient for making my own natural rose body balm!

How to get an affordable, natural rose fragrance.

Bulgarian rose floral wax is a wonderfully fragrant, semi-solid creamy wax derived from rose petals. This natural floral wax offers many of the same skin carebenefits of Bulgarian rosesincluding the moisturizing phospholipids. It makes a lovely addition to your own homemade creams, balms and lotions. And, because it’s naturally scented, there’s no need to add a separate fragrance to your products!

As this rose wax is plant derived, itis suitable for vegan skin care recipes and products. However, keep in mind this is a very soft wax. It is sort of the consistency of warm butter. Therefore you may want to include harder waxes in conjunction with the rose wax in skin care recipes that contain a high percentage of liquid carrier oils.

Simple natural skin care ingredients.

In addition to the rose floral wax, I also chose to usecamellia (tea) seed oilfor my natural rose body balm recipe.Like fractionated coconut oil, camellia seed oil is liquid at room temperature and has a long shelf life. When used in skin care applications, camellia seed oil can help to improve both thetone and texture of skinas well asreduce the appearance of aging. Camellia seed oil is also wonderful for hydration andisquickly and easily absorbed so that skin feelssilky smooth, not greasy.

Ingredients:

3 oz. refined shea butter
.15 oz. Bulgarian rose floral wax
.5 oz.camellia (tea) seed oil

Instructions:

To make my natural rose body balm recipe, you’ll begin by using a digital scale to weigh out the shea butter into a large glass Pyrex measuring cup or similar.

Heat the shea butter in the microwave at 50% power until melted. Alternately, you can melt the shea butter in a double boiler.

Remove from heat. Weigh out the rose floral wax and stir into the melted shea butter until all of the wax has melted.

Now weigh out the camellia seed oil and stir into the melted shea butter and wax.

Pour the rose body balm into your container of choice. I recommend around a 4 oz. container.I used a 100 mL wide-mouth cosmetic style screw top jar from Infinity Jarswhich is around 3.38 oz. It filled the jar to the very very top.

Allow your rose body balm to cool completely and resolidify before screwing on the lid. You can place your rose body balm in the refrigerator to speed up the process.
