Methodology

Names of the flowers were collected from this list at All My Favourite Flower Names. We then searched Instagram for hashtags that had the flower name followed by ‘tattoo’ or ‘tattoos’ to see which had the most images and combined the number of hashtag mentions of both terms to calculate the total number of posts for each flower.

We looked at posts tagged with hashtags using both the scientific name and the common name for each flower on the list.
