What is passing at GSU? ›

Courses earned/passed include grades of: A, B, C, or D. Depending on the program of study, a grade of “D” may not be considered as earned. Graduate level courses assigned IP grades will be considered as passed for the pace calculation.

Most colleges and universities generally consider a "D" (or a 60% to 69% score) as a passing grade. It's important to note that this minimum or lowest passing grade standard can significantly vary depending on the institution or major. For instance, some universities may require a "C" or better to pass.

Grades at or above seventy percent (70%) are considered passing. Students taking high school courses will earn 0.5 credit for each semester grade at or above seventy percent (70%).

Georgia State is test-optional for first-year students with a 3.4 or higher GPA. GPA will be calculated in-house by our International Admissions team based on your international secondary school credentials. Applicants with a GPA below 3.4 are encouraged to submit test scores.

For freshmen and sophom*ores, a 2.9 is just a hair below that competitive benchmark and you have between 2-3 years to increase the competitiveness of your application. Concentrate on any classes where you feel your grades could be stronger and devote more study time to those courses.

The normal grading range is from 55 to 100. The number grades correspond to letter grades as reflected in the chart below. The minimum passing grade is 70 (C). Any grades between 55 and 69 (D and F) are considered failing grades for which unit credit is not earned.

You'll usually need to receive a letter grade between A and D to pass a class, often the numerical equivalent of 65 percent or higher. Receiving an F—which stands for “fail”—indicates that you did not pass the class. The cutoff to receive an F is usually 64 percent.

The grades of A, B, C, D and P are passing grades. Grades of F and U are failing grades. R and I are interim grades. Grades of W and X are final grades carrying no credit.
